Description
‘The Calico Cat That Walked by Himself’ by Debra J Hall | Watercolour
“I am the Cat who walks by himself, and all places are alike to me.”
Rudyard Kipling, The Cat That Walked By Himself
The cat is as happy snuggling by the hearth with his humans as he is wandering alone, determined and confident, wherever his will might lead him. Kipling knew cats, and the title of one of his famous Just So Stories is the inspiration for this watercolour by Kentish wildlife artist Debra Hall.
This fearless puss has been beautifully captured with a ‘wet in wet’ technique, the artist working with watercolour on wet cotton paper in a loose, flowing style. It is signed in pencil in the lower-right corner, and we have finished the piece with a lightly textured Larson-Juhl conservation-grade mount and under-mount.
Open edition prints of this work are available direct from the artist through her website, Grey Pepper Art; the piece for sale here is the original watercolour from which the prints are taken.
