Cat & Fishbowl Vintage American Brooch | Jonette Jewelry | 1980s
An intrepid fishercat is caught with his paw in the goldfish bowl in this fun vintage brooch. As ever with Jonette Jewelry’s work, the cat form is well-observed and the crafter has captured real character in the face; they have even managed to make the fish look surprised. The fish is a separately cast charm, suspended by a linked ring from the top of the bowl, which gives movement to the brooch and makes the look of intent concentration on the cat’s face all the more understandable: the pesky thing won’t stay still and be caught!
The Jonette Jewelry Company is a name well known to collectors of American costume jewellery. Most famous for its range of whimsical pins and brooches, this family-owned business was founded in Rhode Island in the mid-1940s but has its origins in the 1930s firms Providence Jewelry and Lisker & Lisker, which shut down due to wartime shortages of materials. Jonette Jewelry Co. closed in 2006 after 60 years of production, and its designs are now much sought after by vintage collectors.
At Thrilled Kitty we offer a selection from their mid-1980s range of humorous cat brooches and lapel pins, cast mostly in polished pewter and brass. Often making use of articulated features, JJ pieces are a great way to add a touch of fun to an outfit. And, as with all of our antique and vintage jewellery pieces, they are gift boxed and ready to give as a fantastic present. You’ll find more great examples if you explore our full selection of Jonette Jewelry brooches and pins.
